How long is email kept on the server?

QUESTION
------------------------------------------------------
How long do you retain backups of email messages on our mail accounts (and those of our hosting clients) before they are overwritten or destroyed?

ANSWER
------------------------------------------------------

All email folders on our server are dynamic in that, once you download your messages from the email server, they are removed from the server and placed in your local Inbox. Similar to a Post Office Box, once you take your mail from it, the Post Office does not keep a copy.

The only single differential on this model is if you have the "leave mail on server for X days" feature enabled on your email client application settings. With that enabled, you have told your email client to store new messages for a specific amount of days before telling the email server to delete the email from your Inbox folder on the server. Your email messages are never overwritten or destroyed if you have not removed them from our server with your email client or via the Webmail interface.

Our email server is backed up each morning on a rotating \"every other day\" schedule so that we have stored email messages retained from 48 hours past. Our system keeps 2 backup files and overwrites the differential backup file every 48 hours.
