Website Setup Tips

The best way to get started building your web site is to select an authoring tool and refer to the documentation for that program. Most programs have tutorials that will guide you through the process of building a web site, and this can be an excellent way to get familiar with the techniques needed to successfully build your place in cyberspace. Many authoring tools are available from commercial software developers but for free and easy authoring, we recommend WordPress which is free and you can install from the Fantastico link in your Cpanel page.

Next you will need to create your homepage. This is the main page of your site that visitors will see when they browse to your domain and should contain links to the other pages within your personal web site. Once this file has been uploaded it will replace this page on your web site.

Setting Up Your Domain Email
You can login to any internet-enabled computer for your domain email. Be sure to usepop.yourdomain.com for your POP3 server name, and smtp.yourdomain.com for your SMTP server name. You MUST login with your @domain attached to your username to authenticate on our mail server. Typically you would login withusername@yourdomain.com (where username is YOUR user name, andyourdomain.com is YOUR domain name) and your password to get your email.
Most email packages allow you to set up additional profiles to access additional email accounts. Please refer to your specific email software's help files to learn more about setting up additional email accounts.

Getting Your Site on the Search Engines
Getting your website effectively registered on as many search engines as possible is critical to the success of your efforts.
We offer a search engine submission service which will submit your site to hundreds of the top search engines.

Adding to and Modifying your Web page

Using FTP
You can create, modify and add to your web page anytime. To add or change your page via FTP, you will need to log-in non-anonymously (using your user name and password) to your root web folder called wwwroot, which is located in your domain folder at www.yourdomain.com. You can login to your web directory by typing your domain location, your user name and password.
Once you connect via FTP, you will be automatically placed in your home directory. This is the directory in which you should put your home page (named index.html, of course) and any associated files. Using an FTP software program, transfer your website files to this folder.  The only place that the world will see your web page is in this directory! Once completed, your website can be viewed by entering:http://www.yourdomain.com in your web browser (Be sure to put your website in where "yourdomain" is indicated)
