Reducing Disk Space Usage
To reduce your disk space usage, you will need first to identify where your usage has increased. You can do this by logging in to your Cpanel control panel by broswing to your domain url followed by /cpanel. So, if your domain is www.abc.com, your would browse to http://www.abc.com/cpanel. Once located, you will be presented by a login prompt, where you can enter your Cpanel user name and password. If you do not know your credentials you can use the password reset by entering your username in the password reset area at the Cpanel login. If you do not know your password, please open a Helpdesk ticket to have your credentials reset.

Once you have logged in to your Cpanel, click on the link for Disk Space Usage in the Files section. This will display a text and graphical display of what capacity is used for each area of your account. Usually the highest usage is the problem and should be reduced. You can "drill down" by clicking on the link for the area of high usage to see which subdirectories are contributing to the usage.

If you have an email account that is "hogging" disk space, you will need to login to your webmail account and manually remove older stored messages. Be sure that your POP settings on your local email softare is set to remove old messages from the server.

For more info, review the article at http://www.interactivevillages.com/support-info/setting-up-pop3-and-smtpYou may also want to reduce to allocation for that email account so that it does not take your overall disk usage to capacity.

If you have large files or a large quantity of files that are pushing your disk space allocation limit, you can click on the File Manager link in Cpanel to view and remove files, or use an FTP program to login to your website remotely to remove files.

If you need additional assistance, please open a Helpdesk ticket at http://helpdesk.interactivevillages.com

 What is disk space usage?

Disk space usage is the amount of actual disk space being used by directories in your account. See the File Manager to view individual file sizes.

Note that a file or directory’s disk space usage is not the same as its size. Because of how computers store data, a file that has, for example, 20 bytes of data (i.e. its size is 20 bytes) might actually occupy 4,096 bytes on the disk (i.e. its usage would be 4,096 bytes). The difference between an individual file’s size and its disk usage is no more than a few thousand bytes, but a large number of files can make the total disk space usage substantially greater than the sum of individual file sizes.

Note also that this page’s directory tree and chart report only disk space usage in your account’s home directory (/home/mpercy). There may be other parts of the system that contain substantial amounts of data for your account. See the Disk Space Usage figure in the main page’s Stats bar for your account’s total disk space usage.
